Breast Procedures

Breast aesthetics is a rapidly growing field in plastic surgery with the increase in women seeking procedures such as breast augmentation, lift and reduction for both aesthetic and health reasons. Successful breast aesthetic surgery requires a combination of compassion, artistry and surgical skill.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is one of the most commonly performed procedures in aesthetic surgery. Many women are unhappy with the small size of their breasts, which they see as a complement to their body, and want to enlarge their breasts through an aesthetic operation. For this, it is necessary to go to a good aesthetic surgeon and have examinations done.

In order for breast augmentation surgery to be performed, there must be reasons such as the breasts not being fully developed, having shrunk due to weight loss, or having shrunk after childbirth. In addition, there may also be a situation where the breasts are different in size from each other. Small breasts can also affect a person’s mental state. All these reasons combined make breast augmentation surgery the right choice.

What Should Be Done Before Breast Augmentation Surgery?

Before breast augmentation surgery, the person’s general health is evaluated. A measurement is determined by taking into account the width of the chest cage, the patient’s height, and the desired breast size of the person. The patient should be informed about how breast augmentation surgery is performed and which methods are used. In breast augmentation surgeries, silicone is placed through an incision opened at a certain point of the breast. During this procedure, the elasticity of the skin is also taken into account and the size is determined accordingly. There is no harm in using this silicone. In silicone prostheses, while the outer surface is harder, the inner surface is softer in texture.

There are different types of silicone breast prostheses. The person should be informed about these types and the most appropriate prosthesis should be determined. Breast augmentation surgery takes approximately 1 hour. After the surgery, specially made sports bras should be used for at least 2 months. Care is taken to minimize stitch marks during surgery. Stitches are removed within a week to ten days.

Before the surgery, the person is informed about the risks of the surgery and possible complications. If the patient is a smoker, they should quit smoking 10 days before the surgery. If they are taking blood-thinning medications such as aspirin, they should also stop taking them approximately 10 days before.

Before breast augmentation surgery, a good research should be done and an expert doctor in the field should be consulted. In this way, risks and future problems are minimized.

What is Breast Reduction Surgery?

Breast reduction surgery is an operation performed to eliminate the physical and mental problems experienced by women with larger than normal breasts. Many women are not satisfied with the appearance of their large breasts and also experience discomfort due to the problems caused by large breasts. Very successful results are achieved in breast reduction surgery performed under the supervision of expert doctors.

In order for breast reduction surgery to be performed, it is necessary to go to a doctor who is an expert in the field and have a good examination done. During this examination, while checking for any cancer risk, the size of the breast that is larger than it should be and the size of the deformation experienced on the skin are also checked. In order for breast reduction surgery to be performed, certain factors must be present in the person.

These are:

  • Pain in the neck, back and shoulders,
  • Posture disorder,
  • Difficulty breathing,
  • Indentations caused by bra straps on the shoulders,
  • Rash and fungus under the breasts,
  • Negatively affecting daily activities,
  • The person being psychologically disturbed by this situation,
  • The nipples are below the chest line without a bra,
  • The person having realistic expectations about breast reduction surgery.

If these symptoms mentioned above are present in the person, then they can seek help by consulting a specialist.

How is Breast Reduction Surgery Performed?

For breast reduction surgery, the required breast size is determined first. The person should be informed about where the excesses are and how the breast will look after the surgery. It should be explained that the milk glands may be damaged during surgery and that breastfeeding may not be possible in the future.

Breast reduction surgery is performed in various ways depending on the condition and size of the breast. Experts decide on this. During the surgical procedures, the necessary stitching is done so that there will be minimal scarring on the body. However, in some operations, the possibility of scarring is quite high.

After breast reduction surgery, the patient cannot use their arms much at first. But over time, they can start moving their arms. There may be numbness and bruising in the nipples. These will also pass over time. The patient returns to their daily life within a few weeks, but should not do heavy work for 3 months. After the surgery, they should use a sports bra for at least two months.

What is Breast Lift Aesthetics?

Breast lift surgery is a procedure that corrects the sagging and unwanted shape deformities in the breasts caused by various reasons. Before this procedure, the general structure of the breast should be examined and decided how to perform the operation.

Hormonal changes, developments during pregnancy and breastfeeding process afterwards, as well as excessive weight changes can cause sagging in the breasts. In addition, the force of gravity is the biggest factor that causes sagging in the breasts. These shape deformities in the breasts can cause discomfort to the person, so breast lift surgery can be performed.

Before the breast lift operation, the general structure of the breast is checked. The ligaments inside the breast that hold the breast tissue loosen over time and cause excess skin sagging inside the breast. Excess areas inside the breast can be determined during the examination. Before surgery, the person is informed about the risks of surgery and how it will be performed. The person’s general health status and family history are examined and smoking and alcohol consumption status are examined.

How is Breast Lift Performed?

Breast lift surgery takes approximately 2 hours. During the operation, excess skin inside the breast is removed. The breast tissue is reshaped and the nipple is brought to the desired level. Here, different methods are applied depending on the sagging condition of the breast during the operation. Due to the differences in these applications, stitch marks may remain on the breasts of the person in some operations.

After breast lift surgery, there may be swelling and bruising in the breasts for a while. They go away after a while. The person may not be able to use their arms fully. After surgery, a sports bra should be worn for a while. During this period, the person should massage their chest regularly. The surgical stitches can be removed within 7-12 days.

There may be sagging in the breasts again due to weight changes that may occur in the future, changes during pregnancy and breastfeeding periods. It is necessary to consider such situations and to decide on breast lift aesthetics by discussing all possible situations with the doctor.
